Taking a phone photo of a print
- 1Take the print out of the album sleeve or frame.
- 2Use daylight near a window, with the flash off.
- 3Hold the phone flat, directly above the print.
- 4Fill the screen, with all four edges in shot.
- 5Tap to focus, then check it’s sharp before you upload.
Have a scanner? Use it. A flat scan is always best. If not, a free scanning app such as Google PhotoScan helps cut glare.
Glare or reflections
Light bouncing off glossy paper wipes out detail we can’t get back.
Through plastic or glass
Album sleeves and frames add sheen and blur over the whole photo.
Taken at an angle
Tilted shots stretch faces out of shape. Hold the phone flat above.
Flash or phone shadow
Flash makes hot spots. Overhead lights cast your shadow over the print.
We look at every upload before we start. If a photo has glare, reflections or blur, we’ll email and ask you to retake it. Your 3 days start once we have photos we can work from.
